When an asphalt pavement has not been properly maintained (a quality sealcoat every few years and minor damage corrected) that neglect will permit water and chemicals to penetrate through surface cracks and holes and inflict damage to the sub-grade – leading to even more surface damage. When these conditions prevail, the most effective form of repair is to remove the deteriorated pavement and replace it.
The Turner Asphalt repair process:
We begin by neatly saw-cutting the perimeters of the deteriorated asphalt to a pre-specified depth (depending upon the thickness of the original pavement, binder and stone).
We then excavate the patch area removing from the site any asphalt, and unsuitable sub-grade material.
We re-compact the existing stone base to insure a solid foundation for the repair. New stone is added as necessary.
We apply a tack coat to all edges to insure the proper binding of the old and new pavement.
We layer the new asphalt into the patch and insure (heavy roller) compaction. Proper compaction removes air pockets, excessive moisture and insures a smooth repair.
ASPHALT RESURFACING
Resurfacing is an alternative to the removing and replacement process. The determining factor is always the current condition of the pavement in question. A heavily cracked and torn pavement is not a good candidate for resurfacing. However, if the sub-grade and asphalt layers are still largely intact this area may be deemed suitable for resurfacing.
The Turner Asphalt repair process:
We begin by cleaning the area and removing all accumulated debris.
We then apply a heavy tack coat to the area to be resurfaced and follow the tack with a layer of fine stone to effectively fill the existing cracks and voids.
We apply a layer of hot asphalt to the pre-specified depth and finish by rolling the area for compaction and smoothness.
ASPHALT OVERLAY
When the area is small, total resurfacing is not always feasible. An asphalt overlay may be considered if the pavement and sub-grade is in sound condition.
The Turner Asphalt repair process:
We begin by cleaning the area and removing all debris.
We then apply a heavy tack coat to the surface to be overlaid.
We follow the tack with a layer of asphalt applied to the specified depth and finish by rolling the area for compaction and smoothness.
SPEED BUMPS/HUMPS AND RAMPS
In keeping with our full-service philosophy, we offer to our customers our ability to construct items that enhance the safety of their property and meet ADA requirements.
In reference to all of the above, protect new asphalt pavement by applying a quallity sealcoat after a curing period of six months to one year.
